“But there is a general consensus that a just society is one in which everybody is equal under the law and no group should be denied access to any rights, freedoms, or opportunities given to others. The mainstream view of social justice is that society should be fair to everyone.”

The social democratic model is not coherent in terms of rights (e.g., property rights) vs equal opportunity, as ensuring equal opportunity (measured how?) would involve serious and radical infringements on the liberties of others. In addition, the distinction between equality and equal opportunity is not easy to make, as ensuring equal opportunity will involve enforcing considerable equality, which may threaten the liberal order.
